Pressure mine explosion kills Thenmaradchy resident

Mr.Kulanthaian Thirunavukarasu aged 45 and a father of three children died in a pressure mine explosion that took place Sunday evening when he was clearing his land close to Pandrithalaichchchi Amman temple area in Madduvil in Thenmaradchchi division in Jaffna district, Police said.

The area where the explosion took place had been declared by the civil authorities as free of mines.

One of the mines buried in the military operation that took place during the year 2000 exploded Sunday evening killing the owner of the land instantaneously, sources said.

The body of the villager has been handed over to the Chavakachcheri government hospital Sunday night, police said.
