Policeman, homeguard, two civilians injured in grenade attack

Two unidentified persons riding a motorbike lobbed a grenade into an armed post located close to the Triple Gem tsunami refugee camp in Kalmunai Thursday night around 10:00 p.m. Two civilians, standing near the armed post, were also injured in the grenade attack, Police said.



Police Constable Mr. Nimal Somasri, 36, and the homeguard Mr. Gamini, 30, were the security personnel injured in the grenade attack.

The two civilians injured in the attack were: Mr. Nadarajah Sivanantharajah, 39, and Ms. Parvathy Subramaniam, 50.

Injured persons were rushed to Kalmunai Ashraff Memorial Hospital and Kalmunai Base Hospital, sources said.

The Triple Gem tsunami refugee camp is located near Kalmunai Pansala, which is located around one kilometer from Kalmunai town.

Kalmunai Police is conducting investigations into the grenade attack.
