The politburo of the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC), a constituent of the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government will meet Monday evening at its headquarters, 'Soumiyamoorthy Bawan' to decide its strategy in the forthcoming presidential election, party sources said.
A section of the politburo of the CWC, which was founded by late leader Mr.S.Thondaman, and being now led by his grandson Mr.Arumugam Thondaman is reported to have taken a stand that the CWC should extend its support to
SLFP presidential candidate Mr.Mahinda Rajapakse, Prime Minister if he succeeds in obtaining the support of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), sources said. However another section says the CWC should support Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe, UNP presidential candidate. Monday meeting of the CWC politburo would take a final decision on the question whether to support Mr.Mahinda Rajapakse or Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe. However the decision will be announced after the nomination day, CWC spokesman said.
