Kaluwanchikudy LTTE office attacked, one cadre killed

Mr. K. Arulnesan, a political cadre of the Liberation Tigers was killed when paramilitary cadres lobbed grenades and fired at the LTTE office located in Sri Lanka Army controlled Kaluwanchikuddy town around 7:00 a.m. Sunday. Three LTTE political cadres narrowly escaped from the office. Arulnesan's body with 9 gunshot wounds was taken to Kaluwanchikudy Hospital by the Police and later handed over to LTTE. The LTTE office, which was also subjected to a hand grenade attack one month ago, is located on Kaluwanchikudy main road in a high security area of the Sri Lanka Army.
Four paramilitary cadres riding in two motorbikes with T-56 rifles lobbed grenadeds into the office as they approached the building and fired at random. Later, they entered the office following the attack and burnt down the documents and furniture inside the office, neighbouring residents said. Mr. K. Arulnesan, the LTTE cadre killed in the attack, had narrowly escaped from a similar attack on the same office on August 05, when a group of attackers lobbed five grenades into the building. Kaluwanchikuddy Police station and a Sri Lankan Special Task Force camp are located within 100 meters from the LTTE office. Assisting judge of the Batticaloa ditrict, Mr. Vinoba Inthiran, visited the spot and ordered the Police to conduct investigatigatons into the attack. Kaluwanchikudy town is located 30 km south of Batticaloa.  The body of LTTE official Mr. Arulnesan with 9 gunshot wounds, lying at Kaluwanchikudy hospital. A police official is talking to a reporter.
