Mannar civil groups meet SLMM

Civil groups in Mannar district Friday appealed to the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) to take immediate steps to bring back all withdrawn LTTE political cadres to the government controlled areas and provide necessary assistance enabling them to recommence their political activities.
Twelve member delegation of fisheries societies, traders associations and farmers clubs in Mannar, Pesalai and Nanattan areas in the district Friday met with monitors of the SLMM based in Mannar and handed over memorandum. The discussion, which commenced at about 12.30 p.m. continued for about an hour in the SLMM Mannar office, sources said. Tamil people in Mannar district are living in fear with the withdrawal of LTTE political cadres from army-controlled areas. The SLMM should take immediate steps to provide necessary security and other assistance to the
LTTE political cadres to continue their political works in
government-controlled areas, civil delegation told the SLMM. SLMM monitors assured that they would take up the matter with the authorities, a delegation members told TamilNet.
