Army harassment of the public in Cheddikkulam is said to be steadily increasing following the LTTE's attack on a SLA convoy last month said residents in the region. 13 soldiers were killed and 37 wounded in the attack.
Ten families were forced to move from the area in order to put up a new Sri Lankan police post there, they said. The families have been relocated with the assistance of the Divisional Secretary (DS) of Cheddikkulam. Meanwhile vehicles and civilians travelling through the SLA check point in front of the SLA-s command centre in Cheddikulam are intensely searched, said residents. The increased security measures have alarmed the people in the area and some families living in Cheddikulam town and Veerapuram have moved to other areas said residents.
