Graduate trainees hold sit-in-protest in front of Jaffna secretariat

The offices of Additional Provincial Director of Education and Zonal Director of Education did not function Wednesday for the third day due to the sit-in-protest conducted by the graduate trainees demanding permanent appointment. A few graduate trainee teachers began token sit-in-protest Wednesday morning blocking the main entrance of the Jaffna district secretariat, civil sources said.

The sit-in-protest held in front of the Jaffna district secretariat was called off by afternoon. The government agent and other officials and employees were prevented from entering the district secretariat. The district secretariat began functioning from afternoon.

Trainees handed over a memorandum to the Jaffna Additional Government Agent that they would launch a sit-in-protest bringing the civil administration in the district to a complete halt if their demand is not met immediately, sources said.
