Operation USA funds Kallady fishermen livelihood project

Operation USA, an international non-governmental organization, supplied 70 fishing boats with seventy outboard engines and seventy set of fishing nets and related materials valued at about 21 million rupees to 140 beneficiaries in Kallady located in the Verugal-Eachchilampathu division south of Trincomalee district at an event held Tuesday. The implement partner of this project is Trincomalee District Tamil Rehabilitation Organization, sources said.

Mr.Semmanan, Trincomalee District Deputy Political Head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), Mr.S.Wijekumar, Trincomalee district Director of the TRO, Deputy Director Mr.C.Kumarakuruparan MrA Ethirveerasingham, Co-ordinating Officer and several others participated in the event, sources said. A boat with an outboard engine and nets costs about three hundred thousand rupees. Two beneficiaries share a boat for their livelihood, TRO sources said. Operation USA has also undertaken a project in Kallady to construct about 132 permanent houses for tsunami affected families, each house costing about five hundred thousand rupees and also a pre-school at a cost of 1.8 million rupees for children in Kallady village, TRO sources said.
