Meesalai Spiritual Refuge ransacked, buildings damaged

Buildings belonging to Sri Kayathiri Kamagodi spritual refuge ('Aachramam') in Meesalai in Thenmaradchy Jaffna, run by Swami Rajkumar, were damaged and the properties inside the refuge set on fire by an unknown group of persons Monday morning, sources said.

On Saturday Swami Rajkumar was abducted and was attacked by allegedly the same group and was left in Inuvil in Valigamam area with serious injuries. Kopay police, on notification of this incident, went to the scene and admitted Swami Rajkumar to the Jaffna teaching hospital.

He was later airlifted to Colombo general hospital with Sri Lanka Army (SLA) on Sunday morning to receive emergency treatment to his injuries.

The Spiritual Refuge was constructed with funding from Eelam Peoples' Democratic Party (EPDP) leader Mr Douglas Devananda'a Ministry at a cost of Rs 15 lakhs, sources said. Swami Rajkumar recently had organized a function honouring Mr Devananda's contribution to the Spiritual Refuge.
