Sniper-rifle, ammunition found under bridge in Chilaw

Police in Chilaw recovered a parcel containing sniper rifle, several other arms and ammunition under a bridge in the Maha Oya area around 8:30 am Monday after receiving a tip-off from a civilian, police sources said.
The parcel found near the Maha Oya bridge contained a sniper rifle, its magazine with 82 rounds of ammunition, two micro pistols with six magazines and 45 rounds of ammunition along with 7 grenades. Sri Lankan Police led by Chilaw SSP Gamini Amarakoon and Sri Lanka Army (SLA) are carrying out further investigations to find out how those lethal weapons were brought to Maha Oya area which is situated in the North -West region of Colombo. Chilaw head of police Upali Hettiyarachi blamed the LTTE for transporting arms into Chilaw.
