NESOHR releases 26 underage youths

Twenty six underage youths who had volunteered to join the Liberation Tigers were released to their parents in the presence of Ian Martin, former President of Amnesty International and Human Rights consultant, by Rev M X Karunaratnam at the North East Secretariat on Human Rights (NESOHR) building in Karadippoku Junction, Kilinochchi Thursday 10.30am, sources said.
Director of consortium of Non-Governmental Organizations, Mr Pavarasan and UNICEF's Kilinochchi district resident representative participated in the event, according to sources who witnessed the release of youths. NESOHR was formed on 9 July 2004 by community leaders who were active in citizen committees in the NorthEast as an instrument for strengthening protection of human rights mechanisms as part of the peace process.
