Clinton arrives in Sri Lanka

The former President of the US and the UN special envoy on tsunami relief, Bill Clinton, arrived in Colombo at 2.30 pm today. He was received at the newly refurbished Bandaranaike International Airport by Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera and UN officials in Colombo.

President Clinton will meet Sri Lanka's new President Mahinda Rajapakse and discuss with him details of relief measures carried during the last 12 months in Sri Lanka and also on the new President's approach towards the peace process.

Clinton will viist the Kinniya on Tuesday and meet tsunami victims there.

Clinton is expected to present a report on his assesment in Sri lanka when he concludes his one-day visit to Sri Lanka.

This is the third visit by Clinton to Sri lanka in ten months time. He first visited along with former US President George Bush Sr, in January this year and visited again in June .

In his last visit he met former Lankan President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge and appealed to the Sri lankans to adhere by the PTOMS to ensure the tsunami releif assistance and to carry forward the stalled Lankan peace process.
