Two arrested for transporting bomb

Two persons were arrested at a police checkpoint in Siyambalanduwa in the Amparai District, 45 km west of Amparai town, transporting a bomb strapped to their motorbike, said police sources in Batticaloa.

The two were not named but identified as Tamils from Valaichenai and Monaragala, riding a Yamaha Deluxe 100.

Under interrogation they revealed that they had been given the motorbike at Kaluwanchikudy, a town south of Batticaloa, and asked to hand it over in Colombo to someone known as Ganesh.

Following the arrest, security was strengthened at Kaluwanchikudy and the adjacent areas and the police are conducting investigations, said sources.
