Sri Lanka's President meets TNA delegation

Sri Lanka's President Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse and a delegation of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) led by its parliamentary group leader Mr.R.Sampanthan began Saturday around 11 a.m. at Temple Trees at the invitation of the SL President, parliamentary sources in Colombo said. The discussion currently is in progress, government sources said.

Initial reports said the TNA delegation includes parliamentarians Mr.Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam and Mr. Suresh Premachchandran. Mr.Lalith Weeratunge, President's Secretary, heads of the three armed forces and Defense Secretary are reported participating in the discussion, sources said.

According to the TNA agenda, the killing of five innocent Tamil students in the heart of Trincomalee on January 2 allegedly by members of the State armed forces would be given top priority in Saturday's discussion.

The discussion will generally cover the escalation of the violence in the northeast province and the urgent need to enforce the ceasefire agreement and the early resumption of the stalled peace process, government sources said.

Political sources said, the discussions will likely focus on the new developments related to sinking of Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) Fast Attack Craft (FAC) Dvora Saturday morning.
