LTTE supporter shot dead in Point Pedro

Body of Iyathurai Baskeran, 27, displaced from Kudathanai Vadamaradchy East was discovered in Katkovalam, a coastal village south of Point Pedro, at 11.30 p.m. Friday with gunshot wounds, sources from Point Pedro said.

Baskaran was an active supporter of Liberation Tigers, and Katkovalam residents allege that this was likely a revenge killing by paramilitary cadres from EPDP and Sri Lanka Intelligence for the murder of Mathan Friday.

Mathan a Point Pedro Urban Council employee and a supporter of the EPDP was abducted from his home by unknown men and was stabbed to death Thursday night. His body was discovered along Thumpalai Road near 2nd Cross Street, 1 km east of Point Pedro town with severe cut wounds.
