Unindentified gunmen shot and killed a paramilitary cadre of the EPRLF group, Sinnavan, Friday at 10:45 a.m. at Kallady, 2 km south of Batticaloa town, Police said. Sinnavan was a former cadre of Razeek Group, a paramilitary group, that has lost its significance in the counter-insurgency operations waged by the Sri Lankan military against the Liberation Tigers in Sri Lanka's east coast.
The EPRLF cadre, Arulampalam Suntharalingam, 33, known as Sinnavan, was gunned down by two gunmen in front of a motorbike repair shop on Batticaloa - Kalmunai Road. Kattankudy Police is conducting investigations into the killing. The Razeek Group, a paramilitary group involved in counter insurgency operation against the Liberation Tigers by SLA Special Forces in Sri Lanka’s east coast, began steadily losing its counter insurgency role since its feared leader, 'Razeek' was killed in May 1999. The leader of the Razeek Group, Mr. Sivaguru Navaratnarajah, 38, known as 'Kanthy', was killed in a grenade attack by unidentified attackers on 14 September 2005 inside the high security zone in Batticaloa town where Razeek group's well fortified military camp attached to Sri Lanka Army base at Lake Road is located.
