EPDP cadre shot dead in Batticaloa

Mr Raman Ranjan, 36, was shot dead by unknown gunmen who came in a motorbike at Karuwappankerny near Naagathampiran temple in Batticaloa at 5.00 p.m. Saturday, sources said. Rajan is a resident of Aaraiyampathy Batticaloa and cme to celebrate Pongal with his relatives in Karuwappankerny when he was killed. Raman Ranjan was an EPDP cadre, who was collaborating with the Sri Lanka Army Intelligence in Polonnaruwa-Batticaloa border, according to ex-militant sources in Batticaloa.
The gunmen escaped in their motorbike after firing at Ranjan in close range. Batticaloa Police is conducting investigations into the killing. Motives for the killing are not yet known, police said. Karuwappankerny is locaked 2 km north of Batticaloa town. Aaraiyampathy is located 5 km south of Batticaloa town.
