3 SLA troops injured in Vadamaradchy grenade attack, civilian beaten

Three Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troopers were injured in a grenade attack by unknown assailants in Thumpalai, Point Pedro at 3 p.m. Sunday, sources in Jaffna said. The soldiers severely beat a civilian worker during a cordon and search operation conducted by the SLA in the surrounding areas.
The attack occurred at the Maniam Thottam junction, where Thumpalai Road and Beach Road meet when the SLA soldiers were on a foot patrol. The injured soldiers were air lifted to Palaly Military Hospital by Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) helicopter for medical attention. In the search operation following the operation the SLA soldiers beat and severely injured watcher Navaratnam Rajakumar, 30. He has been admitted to the Point Pedro Hospital in Manthikai with broken limbs, medical sources said. Mania Thottam junction is located less than 1 km east of Point Pedro town.
