Private tutor shot dead in Vavuniya, one wounded

An unidentified gunman riding in a motorbike shot and killed a private tutory teacher on Goodshed Road, 1.5 km west of Vavuniya town around 5:00 p.m. Monday. The victim, Kamalachandran, who received seven 9 mm gunshot wounds, died on the spot. A friend of the victim was rushed to Vavuniya Hospital with serious wounds, Vavuniya Police said. Sri Lanka Army (SLA), Special Task Force (STF) soldiers were deployed at the site following the shooting incident.
An unidentified gunman riding in a motorbike, stopped near the victim, Mr. Kanagalingam Kamalachandran, 35, who was on his way to a friend's house. Mr. Jeybathas, the friend of the victim, seriously wounded in the shooting incident, was rushed to Vavuniya Hospial. Vavuniya District Judge, Mr.M. Ilanchelian and the Head Quarter's Inspector (HQI) of Vavuniya Police Mr. A.M.C. Abeysinghe Bandara have visited the crime scene. The gunman had shot the victim after a short conversation, eyewitnesses have told the Police.
