Displaced families in Mannar camp to return to Killinochchi

Eight families with 38 members of the 211 families with 876 members staying since 1990 in Open Refugee Centre (ORC) in Pesalai, a village in Mannar district, have expressed their desire to return to their own district Killinochchi, Divisional Secretariat officials said.
About 153 families with 630 persons are displaced from
Killinochchi district 15 years ago are among the refugees in the Pesalai
ORC. Other families are from the districts of Trincomalee and Jaffna,
sources said. Ms Stanley de Mel, Mannar Divisional Secretary has made necessary
arrangements to take these eight families back to Killinochchi Friday in a
vehicle specially arranged for their travel through Uyilankulam sentry
point of the Sri Lanka Army. Two officials of the DS office would accompany
these families to ensure their safety till they reach their villages,
district secretariat sources said.
