Razeek cadre's residence damaged in grenade attack

Paramilitary Razeek Group cadre Mr Baskaran's house was damaged Thursday night at 9.30 when an unknown assailant hurled a grenade, sources said. The house is located at Thiruchchenthuru Temple Road in Kallady, Batticaloa.
Kattankudy police said Part of house was damaged and that they are conduting investigations into the incident. Kallady is located 3 km south of Batticaloa. The Razeek Group, a paramilitary group involved in counter insurgency operation against the Liberation Tigers by SLA Special Forces in Sri Lanka’s east coast, began steadily losing its counter insurgency role since its feared leader, 'Razeek' was killed in May 1999. The leader of the Razeek Group, Mr. Sivaguru Navaratnarajah, 38, known as 'Kanthy', was killed in a grenade attack by unidentified attackers on 14 September 2005 inside the high security zone in Batticaloa town where Razeek group's well fortified military camp attached to Sri Lanka Army base at Lake Road is located.
