Restrictions on taking food and other essential goods to Manalkaadu in Vadamaradchi East through the Sri Lankan Army check post at Vallipuram have been lifted from today following a meeting yesterday between Vadamaradchi SLA commander Brigadier Karunaratne and representatives of the public, said sources.
Representatives of the public brought to the notice of the Brigadier the extreme hardships people were facing due to the restrictions. However, restrictions for the rest of the 18 km long coastal region of Vadamaradchi east and it's interior hinterland will not be eased, the sources added. Meanwhile, shortages of medicines at the Manthikai hospital in Vadamaradchi are said to be causing hardship for the patients, said hospital sources. Approximately 500 patients are being treated daily at the OPD while there are about 200 patients admitted at the hospital, they added.
