Court grants interim relief on UNP CMC list case

The Court of appeal Friday issued an interim order staying the operation of the order of the Returnting Officer rejecting the nomination list of the UNP for the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), legal sources in Colombo said. The two member bench also issued another interim order restraining the Commisssioner of Elections and the Returning Officrs and other officials from conducting the election to Colombo Municipal Council.

The interim relief was granted until the final hearing and determination of the Writ Application filed by the UNP against the rejection of UNP's nomination list for the CMC.

The Respondents including the Elections Commissioner have been asked to show cause by March 9th.

The nomination was rejected on the grounds that one of the contestants was underage.
