Sri Lankan security forces who were on a routine clearing patrol came under attack

A civilian identified as Aarumukam Irulaandan, 74 from Naanaddan died in the cross fire, the sources added.

Meanwhile the Liberation Tigers said in a press release issued yesterday from their International Secretariat that 11 of their members died in the attack on Sri Lankan Special Task Force (STF) commandos on Tuesday in Batticaloa. 14 Sri Lankan commandos were killed and many more were severely injured in the attack, the Tigers said.

Punniyakumar (Jeyanmuruku Loganathan, Batticaloa) 8. 2nd Ltd. Balasunthiram (Nakarajah Ravichanthiran, Batticaloa) 9. 2nd Ltd. Sukanthan (Rathinasingam Punithan, Batticaloa) 10. Soori (Thangarajah Raveenthiran, Batticaloa) 11. Kannathasan (Sivanavai Niventhiran, Batticaloa).
