SL Government needs support of JVP, JHU- Rajapakse

Support of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) is vital for continued smooth functioning of the Sri Lanka Government, said Sri Lanka's President, Mahinda Rajapakse, speaking at the Gampaha district Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) meeting held in Viyangoda Wednesday afternoon, SLFP sources from Colombo said.

Many opposition party parliamentarians are joining the SLFP after realizing that the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) will continue to perform strongly throughout its full six-year term, said Mr Rajapakse.

Minister of Tourism and brother of former Sri Lanka's President, Mr Anura Bandaranaike, welcomed Mr Rajapakse to the meeting offering betel leaves, a Buddhist custom of show of respect. Mr Bandaranaike speaking at the event said that he is prepared to give Mr Rajapakse his support to ensure that his presidency lasts the maximum period of twelve years, sources attending the meeting said.

JVP, an extreme nationalist, marxist party and JHU, extreme nationalist party of Buddhist Monks, key partners in the ruling UPFA alliance, are against Norway's involvement in the Peace Process and advocate a unitary constitution.
