SL Minister's Personal Secy shot dead in Polannaruwa

M.L. Dharmasiri, personal secretary of Sri Lanka's Minister of Agriculture, Environment, Irrigation and Mahaweli Development, Maithripala Sirisena, was shot dead by unknown gunmen at 10.20 p.m. Monday in Aranangawila in Polannaruwa district, Polannaruwa police said.

Mrs Dharmasiri has been admitted to the Polannaruwa hospital with gunshot wounds, hospital sources said.

Both Mr Dharmasiri and his wife was returning home after attending an event when they were shot at, Police said.

Motives for the killing are not known and Polannaruwa Police is conducting investigations.

Aranangawila is located 3 km from Polannaruwa town.
