Floating container explodes injuring Mannar fisherman

A fisherman, P.Shanthan Fernando, 42, of Mannar lost his two hands above the wrists when a mystery container he found floating in the Thalvupadu Sea in Mannar Monday afternoon exploded when he tried to open it, Mannar Police said.

Fernando was immediately taken to Mannar Hospital, and was immediately transferred to Anuradhapura hospital where his condition is reported to be critical, police sources said.
