ITAK victory in Trinco proves NorthEast homeland for Tamils- TNA

[TamilNet, Friday, 31 March 2006, 20:19 GMT]
The victory of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) in the election for the Trincomalee Urban Council and Trincomalee Town and Gravets Pradesiya Sabah have strengthened the concept that the NorthEast province is the homeland for Tamil speaking people, said Mr.K.Thurairetnasingham, Trincomalee district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian Friday evening after the counting of votes came to a close in the local councils held on Thursday.

Mr.Thurairetnasingham led the election campaign for the ITAK candidates in the Trincomalee district.

Tamil speaking people have shown to the international community that the Trincomalee district is the capital of the NorthEast province, he added.

Amid the heavy presence of Sri Lanka Army soldiers Sri Lanka Navy personnel in the east port town since the illegal erection of Lord Buddha Statue in the vicinity of the Trincomalee bus stand and harassment of security forces and para military groups, Tamil speaking voters had exercised their franchise without fear to assert their right to consider Trincomalee a key part of Tamils Homeland, said Mr.Thurairetnasingham.

Mr.Selvam Adaikalanathan, Vanni district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian commenting on the outcome of the local council election results said Sinhalese people in the south have clearly stated through their verdict in the local council election that they are for a negotiated political solution to the Tamil national question and not through war,

Mr. Selvam Adaikalanathan
The rout of the Sinhala nationalist Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and the all monks' party Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) in the local council election has indicated that Sinhalese people have not endorsed chauvinist policies of these parties against minority communities in the island, Mr. Adaikalanathan further said.

Sinhalese masses have out rightly rejected both JVP and JHU Hence both parties have lost their moral right to speak on the question of peace talks and about a political solution to the Tamil national question, Mr.Adaikalanathan pointed out.
