Newly carved out Navithanveli PS office opened

Mr.Kanagasabai Pathmanathan, Amparai district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian Monday declared open the administrate office of the newly carved out Navithanveli Pradesiya Sabah (PS) in the Amparai district. The election to the Navithanveli PS is to be held on 20 May.
Mr. M.Gopalaratnam, Navithanveli Divisional Secretary has been appointed Special Commissioner for Navithanveli PS till the elected seven-member council takes over the administration after 20 May, sources said.  Navithanveli PS office.
Mr.Kanagasabai said at the event that late Mr.Jospeh Pararajasingham, former national list parliamentarian of the TNA along with him had contributed for the creation of a new PS for Navithanveli. Both communities, Tamils and Muslims should jointly work for the development of the village with a better understanding. Mr.Kanagasabai further said that he has already taken steps to establish a separate water supply scheme for the village. Mr.Gopalaratnam, Mr.T.Mahesan, President of the Kalmunai Tamil Maha Sabah, Mr. M.I.M.Mansoor of Sammanthurai PS and Mr.Packeer Mohamed Thamby also participated in the event. Earlier Sammanthurai PS administered the Navithanveli village comprising 20 Grama Sevaka Niladhari divisions. Of the population of Navithanveli, about 70 percent are Tamils and the balance is divided between Muslims and Sinhalese. Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchchi (ITAK), United National Party (UNP) and an Independent Group are contesting the forthcoming election to the Navithanveli PS. The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) has fielded this independent group due to a court order.
