Muslim man shot dead, spouse injured in Vavuniya

Unknown gunmen forced their entry into the home of a muslim couple in the Manipuram area of Vavuniya and shot dead the muslim owner of the house at 8 p.m. Thursday, sources in Vavuniya said. His wife also sustained gunshot wounds and was admitted to the Vavuniya Teaching Hospital, medical sources said.

Ilum Nizar, 35, did not open the house when the gunmen knocked at his home. The gunmen broke the main door and entered the house sprayed bullets at Nizar before escaping.

His wife Nizar Babee was seriously injured in the attack, Vavuniya police said.

Manipuram is located 7 km North west of Vavuniya town.
