Tamil woman shot dead, husband wounded in Chinabay

Unidentified gunmen shot dead Kanthasamy Nallammah, aged 49, Friday night at Kavatikudah, a Tamil resettled village in the Chinabay police division between Samanpura and Thaniyagama, police sources said. Her husband Pasupathipillai Kanthasamy, aged 50, was sustained gunshot injuries and has been admitted to the Trincomalee general hospital, medical sources said.

A group of attackers who went in a white van entered the house of Kanthasamy and fired at the occupants. Ms Nallammah died on the spot.

The attack took place when night curfew was in force, sources said.

The body of Nallammah is lying at the scene awaiting magisterial inquest.

Her husband who received injuries on his forehead and left eye, now warded in the intensive care unit (ICU), is to be transferred to Colombo hospital for further treatment, hospital sources said.
