Tamil youth shot dead in Kantalai

Unidentified men who came in motor bike shot dead a Tamil youth, Sivagnanam Theepan, in Kantalai Friday evening around 4 p.m. The dead youth worked in sand
mining and transportation of sand for the construction industry. Kantalai is located about 39 km off southwest of Trincomalee town along Trincomalee-Colombo highway.
Theepan was reparing his lorry parked close to Vikneswara Vidiyalayam and
his residence when the attackers shot him at close range
and fled from the scene, Kantalai police sources said. The killing had taken place in Kovil Village (purana Kantalai Tamil village) where the historic Pilliayar Temple built by King Kulakottan is situated. Kantalai was a traditional Tamil village till the Sinhala dominated
governments in Colombo implemented State aided colonization scheme after
Sri Lanka gained independence in 1948.
