Demonstrations were held in Killinochchi town and Visuvamadu Tuesday morning condemning the extra-judicial killings of Tamil civilians in the North East by the Sri Lankan government troops. Protesters condemned the inaction of the international organizations to stop the massacres and appealed to the international community to intervene without delay to safeguard innocent Tamils from the attack by the Sri Lankan government troops and collaborating paramilitaries, civil sources said.
Mr.A.V.Manikkam, representative of the Killinochchi Civil Societies Forum presided. Mr.K.Ganeshapillai, Chairman of the Killinochchi Non-Governmental Organizations Consortium and Mr.S.Gajendran, Jaffna district parliamentarian addressed the protest meeting held at public grounds in Killinochchi. Thereafter large number of people went in a procession to the offices of the UNICEF and Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM). On behalf of the people Mr.K.Sivanesan, Jaffna district parliamentarian handed over memoranda to the representative of the UNICEF and Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) stationed in Killinochchi. Demonstrations were also held in Visuvamadu organized by the Visuvamadu Civil Groups Forum (VCGF). VCGF in a statement addressing to the international community said Tamils expected peace with the signing of the ceasefire agreement. Tamils further expected that they would lead peaceful life without fear in their homeland.
Both did not materialize. Even the international community has failed to condemn the genocidal attacks launched by the State armed forces on Tamil people, the statement said.
