Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers cordoned off and searched KKS road, Aadiapatham Road and Sabapathy Road in Kokuvil east Grama Sevaka division in Jaffna Friday morning between 5:00 a.m., and 8:30 a.m., sources in Jaffna said. The operation was carried out in the wake of several grenade attacks against the SLA camp located in Sabapathy road in Thalaiyali, security sources said.
SLA troopers conducted a house-to-house search demanding the residents to produce identity cards. Young men and women were subjected to harassment and threats, local residents said. Tension prevailed in the area Friday morning. People were allowed to enter and exit the cordoned off area after 8:30 a.m. SLA soldiers vacated the area after 12:00 noon, sources said.
