Magistrate wants police report on Muttur killings

Muttur Magistrate Mr.Manickavasagar Ganesharajah instructed the Police to file a full report on the murders that took place recently in the Muttur police division. The Magistrate informed at a discussion held Thursday afternoon with a police team comprised Trincomalee Police Headquarters Inspector, Trincomalee Harbor Police Inspector and Trincomalee Assistant Superintendent of Police that no evidence has been submitted to court regarding the identity of persons who were behind these killings, legal sources said.
The discussion took place following a message sent by fax to the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Eastern Region) by the Muttur Magistrate regarding the urgent need to maintain law and order in Muttur division, sources said. The ASP informed the Magistrate at the discussion that necessary measures have been taken to deploy more police personnel in Muttur division, sources said. Meanwhile the Magistrate has informed the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) based in Trincomalee to provide full co-operation to visit the scene of crime and to conduct on the spot investigations, sources said. Four Tamil youths and a Muslim were killed by unidentified men in Muttur police division recently, sources said.
