Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) is providing temporary dwellings, food and transport facilities to the growing number of refugees moving into Vanni from Jaffna islets in the wake of the Allaipiddy assassinations, said TRO sources in Vanni. More than 40 families consisting of 200 members are yet to recover from fear and shock after the murders believed to be carried by the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) and the collaborating paramilitaries.
TRO took responsibility of more than 150 members of 28 families who arrived Saturday after being escorted up to the Muhamalai Sri Lanka Army (SLA) check post by officials of Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) and other Non-governmental organisations. TRO found them temporary lodging in Kilinochchi, added the sources. Sunday around 3.00 p.m, TRO officials took the refugees in vehicles to Nachchikuda in Mannar, Mulankavil and Mallavi in Vanni to shelters with other basic amenities. The refugees from the islets are to be more permanently resettled in areas according to their preferences soon, said a TRO official. 12 families with more than 50 members seeking safety and refuge in the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) controlled Vanni, reached Kilinochchi Sunday and are being taken care of by TRO in Kilinochchi, added the sources.
