LTTE protests appointment of military officer as Trincomalee GA

S.Elilan, Trincomalee district political head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Sunday protested to the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) in the east port town, the appointment of a retired Major General of the Sri Lanka Army as the Government Agent of the Trincomalee district by the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL), LTTE sources said. Elilan said that the civil administration of the district will be militarized by the appointment.
Mr.Elilan told the SLMM that the GoSL has already appointed a retired Naval Officer as the North East Provincial Governor who is now administering the North East Provincial Council, sources said. Retired Major General Ranjith Silva is to assume duties as the new Government Agent of the Trincomalee district this week, district secretariat sources said.
