Families flee from Batticaloa border villages

Batticaloa Government Agent (GA) Mr. S. Punniyamoorthy said Wednesday that more than 65 families fleeing from the border villages of Batticaloa district have been placed in the Kirimichchai school building in the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam controlled (LTTE) region.
The Tamil families fled from their village in fear following the
killings of 13 Sinhalese settlers on Monday 29th night in
Rantharathena village in Omadiayamadu near Welikanthai, the GA said. The families are expected to return to their villages once normalcy returns, GA added. Residents of the resettled Tamil village in Omadiyamadu in the Koralipattu North Regional Division have sought safety in
Maruthankerny, Maruthankulam, Kirimichchai, Pannichankerny villages in the LTTE controlled region. Meanwhile, people of Punanai, Mayilanthanai, which are also Tamil villages on the border of Batticaloa district, are living in a state of fear, said sources in Batticaloa.
