Transport Board worker gunned down in Batticaloa, one wounded

Unknown gunmen riding in a motorbike shot and killed a Sri Lanka Transport Board (CTB/SLTB) worker and wounded another youth, who were standing outside Valaichenai bus stand, Saturday around 7:45 pm., Valaichenai Police said.

The CTB worker shot dead was identified as Vaithilingam Nujitharan, 26, from Karuvakerni. He died on the spot.

Peethambaram Mohulan, a 24-years old youth from Valaichenai, talking with Nuijitharan, was wounded and rushed to Valaichenai Hospital, and later transferred to Batticaloa Hospital, according to District Medical Officer, S. Thadchanamoorthy.

Assistant Superindentant of Police (ASP) office is located near the site.

Neighbouring residents alleged paramilitary cadres of Karuna group were behind the incident.
