Grenade attack on civilian house in Chenkalady

Unidentified persons lobbed a grenade at the house of Mr.Ilayathamby Indrakumar located in Ellai Veethi Kanapathipillai village at Chenkalady in Eravur Police division in Batticaloa district Thursday night around 10 p.m. The house was severely damaged but the occupants escaped unhurt, police sources said.

Mr.Indrakumar, his wife and his two children were staying in the house at that time. He owns a jewellery store.

Earlier Indrakumar was living in Ward No: 5 in Eravur. Later he shifted his residence to Chenkalady and was living in a rented house, sources said.

Eravur Police is conducting inquiries into this incident, sources said.

Chenkalady is located about 13 km off north of Batticaloa town.
