New Rs 9.3m building for Kalmunai Fatima College

The Bishop of Trincomalee-Batticaloa Diocese Rt.Rev.Dr.Kingsley Swampillai Saturday laid the foundation stone for a modern school building to be constructed at an estimated cost of 9.3 million rupees at Kalmunai Carmel Fatima College by the Kalmunai Rotary Club with the funding of London Burnham Beaches' Rotary Club, school officials said.
Foundation was also laid for the construction of a modern building to house a computer unit at an estimated cost of 3 million rupees under this project at the college, sources said. College Principal Rev.Brother Stephen Mathew presided over the event. Dr. Ms Pushpalatha Loganathan, President of the Kalmunai Rotary Club made the welcome address, sources said. The new school building will comprise eight classes for the Boys' Section of the College. The computer unit building is for Girl's Section of the College. The Bishop said although the Kalmunai Carmel Fatima College was founded several years ago as a Catholic education institution, today only about twenty five percent of Christian students. The others are of Muslim and Hindu faith. This is a healthy for the community as it promotes harmony and unity among younger generation at a time when people are divided by race and religion. Dr.Ms Pushpalatha Logananathan thanked the London Burnham Beaches' Rotary Club for extending financial assistance to the building project. She also thanked Mr.Jude Machahdo and Mr.Kalim for their assistance in this regard.
