Abductions escalate in Muttur- Elilan

Mr.S.Elilan, Trincomalee district head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Saturday lodged a complaint with the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) that the abduction of Tamil civilians from LTTE held territory to government controlled Muttur has escalated and that SLMM has made little progress on previous complaints of abductions, LTTE sources said.
Mr.Elilan registered a complaint after Subramanian Suthakar (Raju) was abducted by unidentified persons at Navalady junction in a three-wheeler Saturday morning. The Tamil youth was working at the ferry service between Ralkuli located in the LTTE held area and Navalady in the government controlled Muttur town. He was abducted when he with his wife was on his way to Muttur jetty. When he was dragged into a vehicle by unidentified persons his wife immediately complained to police personnel who were at the site. The Police officers ignored her plea, Mr.Elilan said in his complaint. Mr.Elilan further said, "SLMM should investigate vigourously on our complaints regarding abduction of Tamil civilians who travel to government controlled areas from our area. Relatives of abducted persons are being asked to provide the Identity Numbers of Police Officers who are at the scene at the time of abduction. This is not practical when the complainant is in a state of distress", Mr.Elilan pointed out in his complaint.
