Special stickers for Batticaloa vehicles

Indelible and un-removable stickers are to be affixed on all motor vehicles coming from Batticaloa to identify them easily, said sources in Batticaloa.

This move, which is to take effect in two weeks time, will make a punishable offence for vehicles from Batticaloa to drive in other parts of Sri Lanka, without this sticker.

The stickers will be stuck on vehicles at checkpoints at Mannampitty and Siyambalanduwa, the northern and southern gateways respectively from Batticaloa, after a security check.

The stickers will, besides identifying vehicles from the east easily, prohibit them from going into certain high security areas, ministries and other places.

The people of Batticaloa however have expressed their displeasure at this move, stating that they would be subject to continuous harassment by the security forces due to the stickers, said sources.
