The Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchchi (ITAK) group in Muttur Pradesiya Sabha has brought to the notice of Sri Lanka's President Mahinda Rajapakse that the day to day life of about thirty five thousand Tamil people residing in the Muttur Divisional Secretariat division in the Trincomalee district has been threatened due to abduction and killing now being taking place in the government controlled Muttur town, sources said.
"All branches of state banks and government offices are functioning in the Muttur town. Tamil government servants and teachers fear to report for work in offices and schools in Muttur town for the last three months due to violence. Teachers reside in villages far away have not drawn their salaries from banks located in Muttur town," said the ITAK group in a memorandum to the President. Some sinister forces are engaged in the abduction and killing to curtail the movement of Tamil people in the Muttur town. So far four government servants and eleven civilians including children had been killed in Muttur town since March this year. Muttur town is considered a high security zone and is under the complete control of the Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Police, the memorandum further stated. "We appeal to the President to take immediate steps to enforce law and order in Muttur town and to bring the culprits before court of law," the memorandum stated.
