Two youths shot dead in Nallur, Jaffna

Two youths were shot dead by unknown gunmen in Kalviyangkadu within the Jaffna Municipal perimeter were shot dead by unknown gunmen who followed the youths on a motorbike at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, sources in Jaffna said.

The shooting occured in Palaavi Lane near the Ramasami Pariyariyar Road located near the intersection of Aadiyapatham Road and Temple Road. Aadiyapatham Road links Kalviyangadu junction and Thirunelvely, sources said.

Gunmen followed Selvam Sutharsan, 22, from Nallur Temple Road and his friend Anton Kanagaratnam Thushyanthan from Thalayadi Road, Thirunelvely, Jaffna who were also riding a motorbike, and unloaded a hail of bullets at the victims. Both died on the spots, local residents said.

Residents also said that both victims were suspected to be involved in the robberies and killing in the neighborhood.

Additional District Court Judge, Ms Srinithi Nanthisekaran, who visited the crime scene directed the Police to handover the bodies to Jaffna Teaching Hospital for postmortem examinations.
