EPDP member shot dead in Jaffna

Emily Janoos, 58, a senior member of the paramilitary Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP), an ally of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse, was shot dead at Uoorkavatturai, on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. by unknown gunmen, sources said.

Janoos was riding a bicycle over the Kayts bridge when he was shot, Jaffna sources said.

He was a member of the Uoorkavatturai Pradeshya Sabha.

Jaffna District Magistrate Trotsky who visited the site of the crime in the morning inquired into the killing and ordered the body to be taken to Jaffna Teaching Hospital mortuary, legal sources said.
