Muslim youth abducted in Meeravodai

A 15 year-old Muslim youth was abducted in Meeravodai, 25 km. northwest of Batticaloa by unknown gunmen over a suspected business dispute, sources from the eastern town said.

The Muslim youth Kassim Rajaf, 15, was seized by unknown gunmen on Saturday at 9:30 p.m. in Meeravodai, his relatives registered complaints with Valaichchenai police Sunday morning.

Kassim who works at a prawn farm on the borders of Karuvakerni and Kinnaiyadi in Meeravodai, was seized as he cycled to work from his home at Market street, relatives told police.

Batticaloa civil sources said they suspect that the youth was abducted as a result of a trade dispute.

Valaichchenai police are conducting investigations.
