Paramilitaries kill two Tamil civilians in Batticaloa

Kandasamy Govindarajah, 25, a resident of Meeravodai and one of the two Tamil civilians who were taken into custody in a cordon and search operation conducted by members of the para military with the security cover by soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and Sri Lanka Police Monday afternoon around 3 p.m., was shot dead the same day night around 10 p.m. at 18th mile post in Kalodavi located about 27 km off north in Batticaloa town along Batticaloa-Valaichchenai main road, civil sources said.
The body is lying in the mortuary in the Valaichchenai hospital. The whereabouts of other person Mylvaganam Sasi (23) who was abducted the same along with Govindarajah are not known, civil sources said. Meanwhile, in another incident para military shot and killed a person identified as Seenithamby Sankar, 20. Thandavam Selvarajah, 36, husband of Sankar's sister, was also injured in the attack. He has been warded in Valaichchenai hospital. This incident took place on Monday night around 11.30 p.m. in Vantharumoolai about 18 km north of Batticaloa district. Members of Karuna group had gone to house of the victim located in Alaiyadi Road and fired at the inmate while talking to them, civil sources said. Sankar was an agricultural labourer working in LTTE controlled Mylavedduwan. Eravur Police recovered a live grenade lobbed at the house by members of Karuna group after killing Sankar and injuring his sister's husband. The group came in search of Sankar's brother who is in the LTTE, sources said.
