One killed, another injured in Mannar shooting incident

Gunmen Monday night around 10.30 p.m. attacked the Special Task Force sentry point at Semmankulam located along Mannar-Madawachchi road. In the retaliatory fire by the STF one person was killed and another injured, Mannar Police said.

Mannar Police said the person killed in the incident was a LTTE cadre and they recovered a T56 rifle and three magazines with 98 live bullets from him. The dead has been identified as Vettivelu Arumugam, 26 of Semamadu in Vavuniya. His body is now lying in the Mannar hospital mortuary, Mannar Police said.

The injured is identified as Mr.K.Premadasa, 60, a Sinhalese when his Mannar bound lorry from Madawachchi got caught in the firing. He has been warded in the Mannar general hospital, sources said.
