Body of Tamil fisherman found in Oddamavadi

A mutilated body of a fisherman, with stab wounds in neck and abdomen area, was recovered in a stream by the Lagoon near Prawn farm in Veddaththimunai, Oddamavadi by Valaichchenai Police, and was handed over to the Valaichchenai Base Hospital for post mortem examinations at 2.00 p.m. Tuesday, police sources said.
Kanthasamy Thiruvesvaran, 28, a father of 2 children, from co-operative Road, Kinnayady in Valaichchenai Police area in Batticaloa District regularly goes fishing in the lagoon from Kinnayady to Oddamavadi. He disappeared after setting out to fish on the 13 August at 8.30. p.m. and disappeared. Thiruvesvaran had dinner with two Muslim friends from Meeravodai before he left, the relatives said. A number of Muslims from Oddamavadi and Valaichchenai have prawn farms in Veddaththimunai where his body was found. Valaichchenai Police is conducting further investigations. Oddamavadi, a Muslim dominated town, is located 32 km north of Batticaloa.
